Well, the ear cuff trend is certainly in right now - though I prefer it paired with a long earring for those of us with a second piercing.

Here are a couple I love right now, available by Indian designers, as well as locally in the US (at much more reasonable prices)!

Cuff 1 via Art Karat

Cuff 2 via Pernia’s Pop Up Shop

Cuff 3 via Francescas

Artist Spotlight ~ Madhuri Parson Jewelry

Today we have a very special feature from the fabulous NY-based jewelry designer, Madhuri Parson.  Madhuri has started a new luxury jewelry brand offering one-of-a-kind, handcrafted Indian-inspired jewelry with distinct point-of-view. Madhuri saw an opportunity for high-end jewelry that was chic yet versatile enough to be worn from day to evening. She designs pieces to flatter any outfit for women of all ages, and offers one on one consultations, including for brides-to-be. We had the chance to interview Madhuri about her fabulous collections and upcoming events. Read below to see what she had to say.

Your jewelry designs are beautiful - what is your inspiration or how do you get inspired to design each piece?

My jewelry roots in India is the basis for my inspiration to design the Madhuri Parson collections. I was exposed from an early age, to my grandfather’s intricate craftsmanship of designing Indian jewelry and the vast experience left me mesmerized. My heritage, nature’s bounty, parent’s finite collection of original South East Asian artwork as well as my travels within India (and to many other fascinating countries), have all been sources of inspiration for my designs.

We love your fusion of modern style with traditional work in the Jadau collection. What is the history of Jadau jewelry and as you designed this collection what did you envision for how these pieces should be worn today (i.e. for the working woman, wedding guest wear, parties)?

The Mughals brought the form of Jadau jewelry to India. It is the original jewelry tradition of Bikaner and is made by highly skilled craftsmen. Given my Rajasthan jewelry roots, I wanted to design a collection of Jadau jewelry that embodied Old World charm of the intricate craftsmanship while simplifying the style for the modern day woman. For example, I’ve creatively designed Jadau earrings that can be worn as a stud for a chic day look and in the evening, the same pair can be worn as chandeliers by attaching the dangly component to the studs for a formal look. The Madhuri Parson Jadau collection offers a range of earrings, necklaces, bangles, and rings that can be worn for any occasion for the office and to weddings.

What is your favorite piece of all your collections to date and why?

It’s a tough question to answer because each piece I design becomes one of my favorites. Though there is a special design that is my masterpiece and it is the statement peacock earrings and necklace. It took approximately a month to make both pieces. I worked closely with my extremely talented karigar to meticulously hand-craft each piece to ensure a symmetrical gemstone pattern to form a peacock design. I designed the piece with high-karat yellow gold, colorless polki diamonds of high quality, and multi-colored precious gemstones. No detail was left behind as we finished the back of each design with my signature gold and black meenakari, creating dramatic yet elegant look.

It’s great that you provide the Bespoke private consultation service. What can a potential client expect during a consultation?

The Madhuri Parson Bespoke service is a wonderful opportunity for a client to work closely with me and for us to collectively design her most unimaginable jewelry piece. Creativity is limitless when we design together. During the consultation, a client can expect my undivided attention and committment to design and make her jewelry from start to finish. I feel so honored for the chance to design Bespoke jewelry and it’s an incredible joy of witnessing a client’s dream come to life.

Of your current collections, what type of jewelry would you recommend for brides wearing a) South Asian (sari-clad bride) or b) Western-styled (white gown) apparel?

For a) I would recommend my Jadau collection

JADAU: Vibrant sensuality. This collection is a balance of Eastern and Western sensibility. Ancient enameling techniques, meticulous craftsmanship and unexpected details converge with hues of handset gems and rich layers of opulent enamel. Earrings can be worn as a stud for a chic day look and in the evening, the same pair can be worn as chandeliers by attaching the dangly component to the studs.

For b) I would recommend my Gold Collection

GOLD: Understated simplicity. A fusion of yellow gold, diamonds, citrines and emeralds, this undeniably chic collection is classic yet modern. These effortlessly versatile pieces are designed to be worn from day to evening. They add the perfect touch to any outfit.

We are seeing more South Asian grooms wearing jewelry pieces in the US lately. Do you have any collections featuring men’s accessories?

Since the launch of my brand, two years ago, I’ve been primarily focused on designing women’s jewelry, however, within the year I’ve been receiving inquiries by clients to design men’s cufflinks. I’m excited to mention that I’ve recently designed beautiful bespoke cufflinks for clients and plan to roll out my first collection of men’s cufflinks soon that can also be worn by South Asian grooms. Please stay tuned for the wonderful launch.

Jewelry Inspiration ~ Amrapali for Lucky

Amrapali is one of my favorite Indian designers, by far. They’re becoming very mainstream, with their Manish Arora line and now with their Amrapali for Lucky line.

There’s lots of blues in this collection, and the prices are targeted to be more affordable than their usual $1k+ prices, but not sure the designs scream “Buy me!”. More like, “Buy me because I am Amrapali!” What do you guys think?
